Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To pair with its favorable overall grade, we gave this nursing home a grade of A+ for the area of inspections. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being quite insignificant. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not something to panic about.

Short-term Care Quality

This nursing home performed well in the category of short-term care. As a result, we gave it a grade of A- for that area, which is one of our highest grades. Our short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 7.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next most favorable category is long-term care. We gave it a B- in this category. This is essentially a middle of the road grade in this category. In crafting our long-term care scores, we look at the facility's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The next area we analyzed was nursing. Unfortunately, we gave it an F in this area, which is a rock bottom score. We wouldn't necessarily disqualify a nursing home as a result of one terrible category though. When determining a nursing home's nursing score, we assess the quantity of hours nurses commit to patients as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This place fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
