Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were not very complementary of this nursing home's overall grade, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We gave this facility just a D for our short-term care grade and that actually turned out to be its second most favorable category. Our short-term care scores are thought to be more meaningful for residents requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Based on its grade in this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this place was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the measures we looked at. Honestly, this was what we expected here. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Our next category we looked at was long-term care, where this facility was given an F. Long-term care grades in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 55.555557 percent of its residents. This is pretty significantly below what we expected. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Turning to the final category, this facility really did not perform very well in this category either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in nursing, this is about as terrible as it gets. Nursing ratings are largely tied to a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
