Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also would like to point out that this facility was given an F for its long-term care grade. Nursing homes that don't score well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility provided the vaccine to only 42.962963 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
Our third area we looked at is short-term care, in which this facility was given an F. In crafting these short-term care grades, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. With a grade in this range for this category, we weren't stunned to learn this nursing home was well below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it supplied far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 4.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our last area, this nursing home really did not perform well here either. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this is just about as bad as it gets. The nursing score is based on many factors, but the most important consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
