Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the reasons this place received a great overall grade is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A-. Our nursing score includes many factors. The most important one is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home averages 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

In addition, this nursing home earned a very good government inspection report this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that area with a B. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place was assessed 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also was given an impressive short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it an above average grade of B in this category. In forming these short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last area we analyzed is long-term care. We awarded it a grade of C in that area. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. For residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. One of the statistics we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. We were a bit concerned this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to only 78.94737 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this place keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
