Facility Inspections
The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection score. Its inspection grade was far better than its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it a grade of A+. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also performed well in the area of long-term care, with top-shelf grade of A in this category. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 99.632355 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.78 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home is just about middle of the road in this area.
Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing rating. We gave this facility a score of D. In determining our nursing grades, we assess both staffing levels and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is slightly below the national average. In addition to its weak nursing hour totals, this nursing home earned poor marks in several of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We found that a higher percentage of this place's patients experienced falls leading to major injury.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the final category, this facility did not perform very well. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in short-term care, this is this nursing home's poorest grade. Our short-term care scores are thought to be more meaningful for those in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 29.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
