The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an A+. This is a notably better score than the facility's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This facility also excelled in the area of long-term care, with top-shelf grade of A- in this category. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 98.70968 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is often a deadly ailment for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Unfortunately, this nursing home's third best score was short-term care. However, with a D in this category, it still fared somewhat poorly. With our short-term care category, we seek to craft a valuable gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we considered the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
