Facility Inspections

Grade: A

The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it earned an elite inspection score. Its inspection score was far superior to its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate deficiency data for this nursing home. We would like to have more data for this nursing home. Without having access to all of the information regarding deficiencies, it was a challenge to fully assess this facility in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's second best category ended up being its short-term care grade, where it received a grade of B-. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This category is considered to be a reliable measure of a facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 4.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next most favorable category turned out to be its long-term care score, where it received a grade of B-. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Our next category is nursing, in which we gave this facility a grade of C in this area. Our nursing rating looks at the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which is a very low figure. Lastly, our nursing grades also consider some quality-focused statistics. We like to look at the percentage of patients who experienced pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these statistics are indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these issues.
