Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this place received a great overall grade is that it earned an A+ in short-term care. This is as good as it gets in this area. Short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to return home from the facility. We found that 6.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also was given an A+ long-term care grade, rendering it one of the few nursing homes to be awarded several A+ category grades. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our nursing category. The nursing grade analyzes several subcategories, most of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition, this nursing home also earned a nearly flawless government inspection. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A. With this impressive grade, this place is one of the few facilities in California to earn straight A's. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically have few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
