Facility Inspections
Although we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually received a relatively impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our more favorable scores in that category with a B+. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid facilities that have too many deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility ended up receiving a bottom of the barrel score in our short-term care category. It was given a lowly F in this area. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its nursing grade. The nursing grade includes a number of datapoints. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these metrics to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the last category, this facility didn't fare very well here either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in long-term care, this is just about as bad as it gets. Nursing homes that don't fare well in long-term care typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated only 73.07693 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
