Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While we were not very complementary of this nursing home's overall grade, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is generally best to avoid nursing homes that have too many deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The second most favorable area we gave this facility in any area came in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care scores. After we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we assessed was short-term care. This facility's was given an abysmal short-term care score where it received an F. In determining our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is often a solid measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. With its poor score in this category, we were not stunned to learn this facility provided far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The next category we scored is nursing, in which this nursing home received a bottom of the barrel score here as well. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this category, which is definitely very concerning. There are a number of factors within this category. Many of these subcategories reflect nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This place performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.
