In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this nursing home really excelled in our short-term care category, where it received an A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. In the category of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

In addition, this facility also performed well in our inspection category, which is based on the facility's government inspections. We gave it an A- for that category, which is one of our best grades. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. Our nursing grade focuses on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of training of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

The final area we graded is long-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's worst area. We awarded this nursing home a D in this category. Sadly, this grade pulled down the nursing home's overall grade a bit. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care scores. Once we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 94.42379 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
