Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we gave this facility an A for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility performed well in our short-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our most dominant scores. Our short-term care grades are likely more critical for individuals needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in this area with 70.6 percent of its residents returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this metric.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's third best area turned out to be its long-term care grade, where it was given a grade of B-. For prospective patients seeking a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. On top of above average nursing hour statistics, this nursing home's vaccination data is fairly strong also. In fact, this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.75 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
The final area we looked at is nursing. We awarded this nursing home a grade of C in that category. The nursing category analyzes several subcategories, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. With 4.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this place surpassed the vast majority of facilities. Finally, this facility fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home beat the national average.
