Facility Inspections
This place did not receive any respectable scores. Its most alarming grade may be its inspection rating, where it received an F. With facilities that received this poor of an inspection grade, we recommend scrutinizing any severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This facility was assessed 4 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility also received 15 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility wound up receiving a a very poor grade in our long-term care category. It was given an F in this area. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is typically a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the facility is not as well-staffed. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated only 87.6033 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Finally, we were stunned by the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility fared very poorly with 3.82 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, this figure is more than twice the national average.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we graded is short-term care. This facility's was given a low-end short-term care score where it received a lowly F. In determining our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. This rating is often a meaningful measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation. With a grade in this range in this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this place was well below average in many staffing areas we looked at. The facility supplied significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 41.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
Nurse Quality
The final area we looked at is nursing. This facility was given a poor grade of F in that area. We looked at the levels of nurses working for the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses spent with residents, in computing our grade in this area. This nursing home averaged just 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This statistic is well below the national average. In addition to performing poorly in terms of nursing hours, this place also had terrible scores in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. For starters, we looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility was at more than double the national average in both of these metrics. This is concerning when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This sealed this facility's fate of receiving a very poor nursing grade.
