Facility Inspections
Although we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a grade of B. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to point out that this facility received an F for its long-term care grade. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care may not provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes offer. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated only 72.11539 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility ended up receiving a a terrible grade in our short-term care category. It was given a lowly F in this area. Short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home offers significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical nursing home. The final measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.2 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The next area we scored is nursing, where this nursing home received an abysmal grade in this category also. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is definitely somewhat alarming. Our nursing grade is largely associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. On top of ranking below average in nursing hours per resident, this facility also had poor scores in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home was at about 150 percent of the national average in both of these statistics. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. These scores helped pull down this facility's nursing rating quite a bit.
