Facility Inspections
The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an elite inspection score. Its inspection grade was far better than its overall grade. In our inspections category, we gave this facility an A-. Inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically have very few severe deficiencies. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
This facilities next best area was long-term care. We gave it a grade of B- in this area. This is essentially a middle of the road score in this category. In calculating our long-term care grades, we analyze the personal care received by the nursing home's patients. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is a very solid statistic. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.16 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes.

Short-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed was short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a C. In computing our short-term care ratings, we size up the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This category is more often than not a solid assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The tricky part is determining what effect this had on quality of care. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well below the national average.
Nurse Quality
The final category we analyzed was nursing. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F for this area, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. This is clearly a major concern. Our nursing grade is based on quite a few data points, however, the main one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had abysmal marks in some of the quality-based measures to pair with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This nursing home was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this metric.
