Long-term Care Quality
On top of being a quality facility overall, this nursing home really excelled in long-term care, where it received an A. Facilities that excel in this category typically provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a life threatening ailment for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this nursing home received excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of A-. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This facility's third highest category was its short-term care grade, where it was awarded a C. In the area of short-term care, we try to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this nursing home provided data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below the national average.
Nurse Quality
The final area we assessed was nursing. In this category, we gave this nursing home a C. When computing a facility's nursing rating, we assess the amount of time nurses are with patients as well as the level of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place actually fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at.
