Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The primary reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its impeccable government inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better grades in that area, with an A-. This is a notably better score than the facility's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Inspection scores are based on several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this area typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an B-. The nursing grade includes several factors. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a low total compared with most nursing homes. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we graded was long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a decent grade of C. For prospective patients seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to only 45.381523 percent of its residents. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next area we scored was short-term care, which proved to be this nursing home's worst category. We awarded this nursing home a D in this area. Our short-term care grades are thought to be most meaningful for patients needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. As you might expect, we learned that this facility provides significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we assessed the number of residents that returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
