In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Contributing to its elite profile, this facility also performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in the category. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. The last statistic we assessed is its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 1.84 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is middle of the road in this area.

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. Our nursing score consists of a handful of factors, many of which are based on nursing hours. This nursing home provided 4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Approximately one quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are among the most highly skilled levels of nurses. Both are impressive figures, which typically leads to higher quality care. Finally, this facility was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we looked at in this category. For example, it performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a facility provides.

Moving on to the last category, this facility also performed well in our short-term care category. In fact, we awarded it an A for that area. This rounded out a straight A profile. In crafting our short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to create a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. One of this place's strengths is that it offers more than seven hours of care per week from registered nurses to each resident. This is really the gold standard for this area, as it's about 1.5 times higher than the typical place's level of registered nurse staffing. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation with 57.3 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
