Nurse Quality

Grade: A

To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home an A for our nursing grade. The nursing grade includes many subcategories. The most important factor is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provides an incredible 4.5 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is much better than what is offered by most places. Finally, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

An additional strong feature for this facility is that it was given a favorable long-term care grade. Indeed, this turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B+. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to offering very impressive levels of nurse staffing, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.45946 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. This combination proved to be successful as this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. While it had 3.16 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was better than most facilities due to it having some more complex patients.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

This facility also received top notch government inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This facility was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final area we analyzed was short-term care, where this nursing home received a grade of B. This nursing home proved to be strong across the board. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to gauge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To offer quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This nursing home provided more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. This is what we like to find when assessing a facility in this category. The last metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 36.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
