Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a grade of A- for our inspections rating. This score is significantly more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid nursing homes that had too many deficiencies. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We also gave this nursing home a solid score in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of C. In our short-term care grade, we seek to create a fair measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 5.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. There are quite a few factors included in this category. Most of these datapoints are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This facility performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we analyzed was long-term care. It received a lowly F for this category, which is an abysmal score. When facilities receive this kind of score in this category it is a bad sign for patient care and it may indicate that the facility is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the data points we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to only 75.88933 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
