Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection grade. In fact, its inspection grade was far superior to its overall score. In our inspections category, we gave this facility an A+. Inspection grades weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's second best category is long-term care. We awarded it a grade of C in this category. This is essentially a slightly below average grade in this category. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this nursing home's next highest score was short-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this category, it still performed somewhat poorly. Our short-term care grades are believed to be most important for people in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. As you might expect, we learned that this nursing home offers far less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical facility. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics was damning for this nursing home's short-term care grade.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's worst area was nursing, which is the last category we assessed. In this area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D. Nursing grades are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This facility fared well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
