Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Unfortunately, we were not able to track down deficiency data for this facility. We would like to have more data for this facility. Without deficiency related data, it is difficult to evaluate this nursing home in terms of this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also was awarded favorable short-term care grades in our assessment. In fact, we gave it one of our better grades in that area, with a score of B+. Short-term care grades are vital for residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. It doesn't appear that this nursing home submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 5.5 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. In determining our nursing ratings, we weigh both staffing levels and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final area we rated was long-term care. This nursing home was given an above average long-term care grade this year, with a B-. Although this isn't nearly as dominant as many of its other scores, this is nevertheless an acceptable score in this area. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 96 percent of its patients. This nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
