Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a poor overall score, we gave it a B for our inspections rating. This was the result of the nursing home receiving a decent government inspection report this year. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. Our nursing grade assesses several components, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This facility averaged a meager 2.7 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is well below average. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home was above average in two of the areas we focus on, with solid scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These metrics are generally good indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home wound up receiving a a terrible score in our short-term care category. It was given a lowly F in this category. Short-term care grades are generally employed to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services In order to offer good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 27.7 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the fourth area, this facility really didn't perform very well in this category either. With a very poor grade of F in long-term care, this is just about as terrible as it gets. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is often a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the place is not as well-staffed. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to just 56.650246 percent of its residents, which is not a very encouraging sign. To our surprise, this facility actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 1.2 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
