Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it actually received a fairly impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our more favorable scores in that category with a B+. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid facilities with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the area of long-term care, this facility received just a D in that category. As it turns out, this proved to be one of its better grades. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this facility also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality
The third area we analyzed is short-term care. This facility's was given a bottom of the barrel short-term care score where it was given a lowly F. In the category of short-term care, we strive to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The last category we scored was nursing, in which this nursing home received a rock bottom grade in this category as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is definitely a major disappointment. In calculating our nursing scores, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
