Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to faring well overall, this facility earned nearly flawless government inspections. Therefore, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A+. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's above average category scores came in the area of long-term care. We gave them one of our more positive scores in that area, with a grade of B. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. Nursing scores are mostly associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we rated is short-term care. This nursing home was awarded a very good short-term care rating this year, with a grade of B-. While this is not as elite as some of its other scores, this remains a decent rating in this area. Our short-term care grades are thought to be most meaningful for individuals needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This means not only nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
