Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
In addition to being an elite nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A+. Very few places fared this well in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
To complement its elite achievements in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our short-term care rating. Short-term care grades are based on a facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a wide spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home is the gold standard in terms of skilled nursing staffing. In fact, it offered roughly 50% more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. This is what we like to find when grading a nursing home in this category. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 77.9 percent of its residents returning home.

Long-term Care Quality
The third category we graded is long-term care. This nursing home was given a very positive long-term care grade, with a grade of B+ in this area. For prospective residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. It does not appear that this nursing home provided information about vaccinations. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
The final area we analyzed is nursing, where this nursing home was awarded a C. This actually turned out to be this facility's weakest category. This is still not a bad grade. The nursing score includes a handful of components, however, the main consideration is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per patient each day. At least one fourth of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. This is a high ratio of skilled nursing care. We weight these hours more in determining our nursing ratings. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based measures, such as minimizing major falls. This nursing home performed admirably in this statistic.
