Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this nursing home's overall grade, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A-. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this nursing home also earned an excellent nursing score, with an B. Our nursing score weighs a handful of factors, but the most important consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Short-term Care Quality
We gave this facility a grade of just D for our short-term care grade. This is not a very good score. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Based on its poor score in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this place was well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 17.6 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was long-term care, which turned out to be a weak link for this nursing home. We gave this nursing home a grade of D for the area of long-term care. Nursing homes that do not fare well in this category typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. We were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated 69.87952 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be significantly less than what we expected. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.99 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home did not fare as well as the average nursing home.
