Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Although we did not rate this facility well overall, we want to point out its decent grade of B- in the category of nursing. Nursing ratings are primarily based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a low total compared to most facilities. Lastly, our nursing scores also factor in quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often an indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses to assist its patients.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

We were also pleasantly surprised to award this nursing home a relatively favorable government inspection score as well. We gave it a respectable grade of B- in this category, which was much better than its overall score. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We also awarded this nursing home a decent score in the area of short-term care, with a C. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most meaningful for folks needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 3.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's weakest area is long-term care, which is the final category we looked at. In this category, we gave this nursing home a D. For residents seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an above average datapoint. To our surprise, this place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
