Facility Inspections

Grade: A

We also would like to point out that this nursing home has earned excellent health inspections recently. We awarded them an A in this category. Inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this area generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility also performed well in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Short-term care ratings are vital for residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more skilled nursing services. This includes a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. It does not look like this nursing home submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The final measure we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 7.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Our nursing score considers a number of subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the last category we analyzed, this nursing home was given a very strong grade of B+ in our long-term care category. With this grade, the nursing home topped off a very strong report card. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility submitted vaccination data. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
