Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we gave it a B- for inspections. This grade is more respectable than this place's overall score. We believe that one of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially focus on the severity of the deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
We also awarded this facility a grade of B- for our nursing rating. Nursing scores are largely tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. It performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility's next most favorable category turned out to be its long-term care score, where it was awarded a grade of C. Our long-term care ratings are more critical for those needing more conventional assistance related to personal care. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to only 72.25131 percent of its residents. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed is short-term care. For this category, we gave this facility a grade of C. Our short-term care grade is typically used to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. The facility offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
