Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place is a strong facility is that it earned a very impressive inspection rating. In fact, inspections turned out to be its best category grade. In this category, we gave this facility an A+. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this area tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. This facility received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Contributing to this facility's list of achievements, it also was given a high-end long-term care grade. We awarded them an impressive strong of A- in this category. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 98.809525 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of C in this category is by no means a bad score. There are a number of factors included in this category. Many of these factors are tied to staffing levels. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This figure is far below the national average. Finally, although this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of our quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this metric.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we graded is short-term care, which proved to be this facility's worst category. We gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is obviously a bit concerning. In forming our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we considered. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 4.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
