Facility Inspections
While this nursing home received a decent overall score, its inspections rating is notably more impressive than its overall grade. Due to a strong government inspection report this year, it earned one of our better scores in that area with a B+. Arguably the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This place was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's higher category scores was in the category of short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a B+. Our short-term care ratings are believed to be most important for residents needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it was above average in this area with 54.8 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
An additional reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this area. Our nursing rating includes quite a few factors, many of which are tied to nursing hours. This nursing home provides 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as predictive measures of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
Our next category is long-term care, in which we gave this nursing home a grade of C in this category. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 92.25589 percent of its residents. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.23 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this number can be skewed for some facilities based on the medical complexity of residents.
