Short-term Care Quality
In addition to earning a great overall score, this nursing home excelled at short-term care. In fact, we gave it an impressive grade of A for that category. Our short-term care grades are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we considered in this category is the number of residents that were able to return home from the facility. We found that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
This nursing home has received near flawless inspections recently. We awarded them an A in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are quite insignificant. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. The nursing rating is based on a handful of factors, but the main one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
In our final area, we gave this facility a grade of A for our long-term care grade. This finished off a first-rate report card. When facilities receive this kind of score in long-term care it is a good sign for resident care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
