Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility's overall grade, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that category with an A. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with a list of deficiencies flagged. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Not having any deficiencies proved to be this place's best achievement.
Short-term Care Quality
The second most favorable category we gave this facility in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. Short-term care scores are important for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a wide spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. The important question is whether this also affected quality of care. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
In our next category, we gave this nursing home a rock-bottom F in the area of long-term care. For prospective patients in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 98.50187 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this place also keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The next area we analyzed was nursing. Sadly, it received an F for this category, which is a rock bottom score. There are numerous criteria included in this area. Many of these data points relate to levels of nurse staffing. This place averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is well below average. Unfortunately, this facility also had abysmal scores in several of the quality-based metrics to pair with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers. This nursing home was at more than twice the national average in this datapoint.
