Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received an impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that area with an A. Inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with a list of deficiencies flagged. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. The lack of deficiencies is this facility's greatest accomplishment.
Short-term Care Quality
We also would like to point out that this facility was given an F for its short-term care score. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. As you might expect, we found that this place offers significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the typical nursing home. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who eventually returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its long-term care grade. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to the next area, this nursing home really did not fare very well here either. With an abysmal grade of F in nursing, this is just about as as uninspiring as it gets. In calculating a nursing home's nursing grade, we consider the number of hours nurses spend with patients as well as the levels of training of the nurses. This place averaged a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This facility performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
