Long-term Care Quality
We also found that this facility excelled in our long-term care rating. We gave them a grade of A+ in this category. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to assessing the well above average volume of care provided by aids and other staff at this nursing home, we also were pleased by the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.2629 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. This combination proved to be effective as this place keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had only 1.68 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also earned an A+ inspection score, making it one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. This grade is based on the nursing home's recent inspections. Our inspection ratings are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. The nursing rating consists of a handful of subcategories, however, the main one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 4.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which was among the highest totals we found. Finally, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. With fewer than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, this place performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Many pressure ulcers can be avoided by offering better nursing care and a system of turning patients more often.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we rated was short-term care. We awarded this facility a decent grade in this category, with a grade of C. Even though this isn't on par with some of this facility's other scores, it is nevertheless not a terrible score. In calculating these short-term care grades, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final item we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it was respectable in this area with 45.9 percent of its patients returning home.
