Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Adding to its elite profile, this nursing home also performed well in our long-term care area. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for the area. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After looking at the significant amount of nursing hours provided by this nursing home, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Compounding its high-end assessment, this nursing home also was awarded an excellent short-term care grade, with a score of A-. In calculating these short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to devise a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. The last measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
In the final category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our nursing score. This rounded out a very impressive report card. When determining our nursing ratings, we weigh both staffing levels and the skill levels of the nurses. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 5.5 hours of nursing care per resident daily, of which a significant percentage was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. This is one of the higher totals of nursing hours we found at any facility. In addition to looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
