Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home excelled in our shot-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. In calculating these short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who returned home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among its many elite scores, this facility received a strong long-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in this area. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 99.40476 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a life threatening ailment for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Another impressive feature of this facility is its inspection rating. In that category, we awarded this facility a score of A-. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this category generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

The last category we assessed was nursing, where this facility was awarded a B+. This completed an elite report card. Very few nursing homes earned a B+ or higher in all four categories. Our nursing grade features a host of subcategories. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving residents more often.
