In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this facility also performed well in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A+. Few facilities fared as well in this category. Our inspection ratings are tied to pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly can be a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Moving on our next area, this facility received first-rate short-term care score. In fact, it received a grade of A- in that area. In computing our short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

In our final category, this facility also was given a very strong nursing rating, with an A-. This finished off a first-rate profile. There are quite a few criteria within this area. Many of the criteria reflect nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is often a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
