Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.

Incredibly, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B- for its short-term care rating, which is not a bad grade. In computing our short-term care ratings, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is typically a solid measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was a much stronger area for this facility. It outperformed most nursing homes in this area with 63.2 percent of its patients returning home.

Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. Nursing grades are primarily associated with the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place provided just 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a relatively low total compared with most other nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. It performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Historical

The last category we assessed was long-term care. It received an F for this area, which is a very poor grade. For patients in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 98.958336 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home also keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
