Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

While this nursing home's overall score was horrible, it fared well in the area of short-term care. We gave it a B for that category, which is one of our higher grades. This is one of the only good things we can say about this nursing home. Our short-term care scores are presumably more meaningful for people needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B- for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. Our nursing rating is mostly based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. This place averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is not an impressive total. Lastly, nursing scores also factor in quality-based measures, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its patients.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Tragically, this facility received an F for its long-term care grade. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to find that this facility vaccinates 98.305084 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Moving on our last area of inspections, this nursing home received an F here. With facilities that received this poor of an inspection rating, we would scrutinize any severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular nursing home was hit with a category G through L deficiency, which are among the more serious deficiencies. These categories indicate that the deficiencies identified by CMS had the potential to cause actual harm to residents. Finally, we want to point out that this facility was assessed large government fines of more than $100,000. This often signifies that a nursing home's poor performance spanned more than one year.
