In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A. Few facilities performed better in this area. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident safety or health. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.

Additionally, we awarded this nursing home a B in our long-term care category. This happens to be one of our better grades. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at was its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.53 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.

One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. There are numerous factors within this category. Many of the factors relate to staffing levels. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, this nursing home was relatively weak in two of the metrics we look at, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Turning to our next category, this facility was awarded a C for short-term care, which is a decent rating. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of patients that were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 40.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
