Long-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
Turning to inspections, this nursing home excelled in that area, which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. We awarded it an A for that category. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This place was assessed 9 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. Our nursing rating looks at the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of training of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we looked at is short-term care, in which this facility was given a B-. Although this is its poorest category score, this is nevertheless not a major area of concern. In calculating our short-term care grades, we look at a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This area is more often than not a solid measure of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. We weren't able to find registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
