Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this ended up being a quality nursing home is that it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is as good as it gets in this very important category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Unfortunately, we were not able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received a top-shelf long-term care score. This actually is this facility's second best category score. In that category, this facility received a grade of A-. Facilities that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home is also strong in the category of short-term care, where it was given a grade of B+. It outpaced most nursing homes in this area. In determining our short-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 5.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our last area, this facility received a respectable nursing score. While this was not as good as several of its other scores, this is still a middle of the pack score. Our nursing grade features a variety of subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other nursing homes. Finally, although this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of our quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it did well in this area.
