Facility Inspections
Although we didn't rate this nursing home favorably overall, we actually gave it an excellent grade in the category of inspections, where it received an A. Inspection ratings are tied to many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these inspections. Most importantly, you should avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility's next best category was long-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this area, it still fared somewhat poorly. Facilities that do not fare well in long-term care typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccinations. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to a relatively low 87.3385 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, this facility received an F for its short-term care grade. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final measure we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 5.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics sunk this facility's short-term care grade.
Nurse Quality
The last area we graded was nursing. It received an F for this area, which is an abysmal score. In calculating our nursing ratings, we assess both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. This nursing home also had terrible scores in several of the quality-based metrics to go along with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than double the national average in this metric. This is quite concerning when you consider that many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the nursing home's fate of earning a poor nursing grade.
