Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively insignificant. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few relatively minor dings aren't necessarily something to panic about.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition, this facility received high marks in the area of nursing. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Nursing grades are mostly based on a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving a patient even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to its remarkable resume, this nursing home also received a strong short-term care grade, with a score of A. Our short-term care grades are thought to be more critical for patients requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not just nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the final area, this nursing home also received an impressive long-term care rating, with a grade of B+. This wrapped up a very favorable profile. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. One of the data points we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the nursing home population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
