Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a strong nursing home overall, it also earned A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Contributing to its top-shelf profile, this facility also excelled in our short-term care area. In fact, we gave it a score of A- in that area. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing score includes a host of subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving a resident at least once a day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Switching gears to the last category, this facility received a strong long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it an A- in this area, rounding out a straight A profile. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 95.4023 percent of its residents. This is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the senior population. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
