Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of performing well in its overall grade, this facility performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Our inspection scores are tied to several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home was given a favorable long-term care score as well. We awarded it one of our higher grades in that category with a score of B. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 99.63768 percent of its residents, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next category we analyzed is short-term care, where this facility received a B- in this area. In forming our short-term care ratings, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to formulate a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.1 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Switching gears to our fourth area, this facility was given a grade of C for nursing, which is a respectable score. When determining our nursing grades, we factor in both nursing hours and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, although this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in some of our quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it fared well in this statistic.
