Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our short-term care category. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most critical for patients in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we gave this facility an A-. When computing our nursing grades, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality
We also want to note the fact that this nursing home was given a strong score of A- in our long-term care category. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a life threatening health condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home does not take any chances. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also received top notch government inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a B+. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
