Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of C for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 5 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This means it avoided the more ominous categories of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received some government fines in recent years.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also didn't perform too badly in the area of short-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of C in that area, which happens to be among its more favorable scores. In computing our short-term care scores, we scrutinize the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This score is considered to be a reliable measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation. We found that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. It is still important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.

Long-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this nursing home only earned a D for its long-term care grade, which is well below average in this category. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category may not provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes offer. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated just 87.52784 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
Nurse Quality
The final area we looked at is nursing, ended up being this facility's worst area. We awarded this facility a D in this area. In calculating a facility's nursing grade, we look at the amount of time nurses are with patients as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these scores pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.
