Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its top-shelf profile, this nursing home also performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, it received a score of A for the category. For prospective patients looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 76.065575 percent of its patients, which is somewhat less than we were hoping for. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the number of hours those nurses spent with patients, in determining our grade in this area. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving a patient more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Moving on to our fourth area, this facility was given a highly favorable short-term care rating. Although this is not quite as dominant as a few of its other category grades, this is nevertheless one of our better grades a facility can receive. With our short-term care grade, we attempt to craft a fair barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
