Nurse Quality
We would like to point out that this nursing home's nursing grade exceeded its overall rating. This facility earned a grade of B in this category, which is one of our better grades. The nursing grade consists of a handful of factors, however, the paramount consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's higher category scores came in the area of short-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. In computing our short-term care ratings, we size up a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This area is frequently a fair assessment of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The last metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that it fared better than most nursing homes in this area with 55.1 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, at most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.

Facility Inspections
Turning to our inspection category, it appears this nursing home has earned respectable inspections in recent years as well. We gave it a grade of B- in this category. We believe that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially focus on the severity of those deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we graded was long-term care. This nursing home was given a grade of C in the area. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This facility also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.45 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
