Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

One of the reasons this proved to be a quality facility is that it received a very impressive short-term care rating. In fact, short-term care is its best category. In that category, we awarded this facility an A. Our short-term care grades are crucial for people requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional skilled nursing services. This includes a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 6.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to its impressive profile, this nursing home also performed at a high level in the category of inspections. In fact, it earned a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that category with an A. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility received even higher grades in the area of nursing. In fact, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A-. Our nursing score is based on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of skill of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

This facility's weakest area was long-term care, which is the final area we analyzed. Sadly, it received an F in this area. In spite of some favorable grades in other categories, this grade is nevertheless a bit of a concern so we felt obligated to point it out. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in this category may not provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes provide. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 80.597015 percent of its patients. This is several points lower than average. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.
